A Delegation System for Founders
A newsletter for founders breaking free using systems
Hey friends,
Scott and I are starting a newsletter over here for FreedUp, called “Systems Driven Weekly” - a newsletter for founders breaking free using systems.
Each week we’ll explore a different system with the goal of either:
Making your business run by itself
Making your life run by itself
First up, a delegation system (duh - that’s our thing) followed by some 🎙️podcast news.
➡️ A Delegation System for Founders
[For a live deep dive on this, come to our online event next week]
Many founders don’t delegate. At all.
They say things like, “It’s just as much work to explain the task to someone else as it is for me to do it”.
What they’re really saying is, “I don’t have a system”.
Our “Delegation System” contains 4 components…
Component 1: Context
Not just the context of the task - whomever you’re delegating to must know the context of your goals. What are you or your business currently trying to accomplish this quarter?
How? Share mission/vision, quarterly OKRs, and ideal week calendar (for EAs).
Component 2: Leadership
Simply put, will you review the task and provide feedback afterward so they can improve for next time? Most skip this and then wonder why their employees are not improving.
How? Use task management software where you can leave feedback on tasks regularly.
Component 3: Information Access
Do those to whom you delegate to have the ability to efficiently access the information they need when they need it?
How? For EAs, input all your personal info into a sheet like this.
Component 4: Documented Processes
Use SOPs (standard operating procedures) to document step-by-step instructions for common tasks. Treat them as living documents and have everyone work out of them and update them.
How? Start with this SOP template.
On Wednesday at our online event, I’ll share the tools we use and steps we take to implement these components.
🎙️ Moneywise Podcast
Lastly, we have been working on spinning up a new podcast called “Systems Driven Founder”, but I just got the news that I’m in the running to take over Sam Parr’s podcast, Moneywise!
I’ll know more in a couple of weeks but with 40k+ downloads/episode that would be a huge win for our podcast department 😉
